Convenient location, plenty of parking and spacious room which was clean & dry with ensuite w spacious shower with a heated towel rail. Great that it's pet friendly also and has accommodated my dog. It has a shared area with fridges, microwaves & a toaster which is handy. Its also manned on the front deak 24/7 so it feels secure and the staff are friendly. Its also next door pub and steakhouse. I would stay there again.
Recently stayed here as a couple with a dog. Loads of parking available, good location with easy public transport into the town centre. Big spacious room, which with a big dog was appreciated and a nice touch that there was no additional charge for having the dog. It was very clean, fresh towels and a comfy bed which after a long journey was great! 4/5 for the reason of how hot the room was. It wasn't a particularly hot day, around 18 degrees, but the room was hot, which meant not the best nights sleep. There was a fan in the room to help with the temperature. However, it just wasn't quite enough. The room also smelt of cigarettes, even though it said it was a non-smoking room. For the price you pay, the quiet location and the cleanliness, it's well worth a stay, and we will return when next in the area!
The first time at Excel was not disappointed ,lots eating places at reasonable prices. Excel staff informative and friendly. Car parking paid on advance great .parked 10am till midnight £25 left car there explored London 15 mins on Elizabeth line

The room was basic but functional, and while there was a slight musty smell, it wasn’t overwhelming and didn’t affect the overall experience. Overall, it’s a practical and economical choice if you just need a place to stay for a night or two.
The hotel is in need of some refurbishment and is a little shabby hence the four stars overall. However the room was perfect for our needs and is located close to the family we were visiting. The staff were friendly and helpful in every way. Good value for money. Would recommend.

We were after somewhere to spend the night in Darlington after a long drive from London and managed to book last minute. The hotel was easy to find and situated right next to a pub which is great as you dont have to drive anywhere else. Even though the decor is quite outdated the room was clean and welcoming and reception staff were friendly. Tea was provided in the room and the breakfast menu was very reasonably priced but no toiletries were provided at all so make sure you bring your own. All in all great for the price.
Basic but clean, quiet, and comfortable with friendly staff. The decorations look like they were done in the 80's. If you arrive knowing what to expect this is a perfectly nice place to spend the night and extremely good value for money. I enjoyed a nice breakfast in the pub next door, which was also very reasonably priced. I would stay here again.
